Pleasant City Church's 70th Anniversary!
“The Holy Spirit of God was at work among these men and, as they continued to talk, their interest grew (concerning starting a new church on County Home Road, Shelby, NC).”
(Excerpt from the book “White Unto Harvest” which details the early history of PMBC/PCC written by Betty McIntyre)
Putnam Memorial Baptist Church/Pleasant City Church is celebrating its 70th year of ministry. Since its establishment in October of 1949, our church has experienced many victories for the Kingdom of Heaven. We have seen many come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, many discipled in God’s Word, many who have gone out on mission, churches that have been planted and those who have been raised up who now serve in vocational ministry.
Also and just as important, we continue to be a church that has maintained its relevancy with our culture without compromising God’s Word, while reaching those outside the culture of the church. This would not have been possible nor be possible without the sacrifices of those before us and those who currently make up our church family today. We have continued to have the attitude to do whatever it takes to reach those who need salvation and discipleship while putting our own preferences and desires aside to do so. That is a work of God in our lives that should be celebrated.
The sermon for the 70th Anniversary Celebration is entitled “Remember.” Through this message I hope to challenge us, just as I did back at our 50th Anniversary to remember the sacrifice behind us, resist the complacency among us, release the fears within us and respond to the vision before us. My prayer and purpose for this message is to bridge our victorious past to the vision of an extra-ordinary future of expanded ministry to those in our community and to those around the world.
Therefore on Sunday, October 20th in both of our morning gatherings, I ask you to join us as we celebrate what God has done through 70 years of ministry here at PMBC/PCC.
Serving His Kingdom Together,
Bryan Glisson, Pastor
