A Father's Day Tribute

Father's Day 2019 News Post

By Heidi Marburger

A big shout out: “Happy Father’s Day to all you dads!”

I hope each of us who has a father who loves and fears the Lord realizes how very blessed we are! I praise the Lord for the many fathers who have loved Jesus with a commitment that has been stronger than the pull of everything this world has to offer them!

From my father, to the father of my children, to my sons and son-in-law, I have seen Psalm 145:4 – “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” I honor these men today for the roles they play as fathers!  I have the privilege of personally knowing that each of these men love Jesus and love their children with all their hearts.

I watch as my dad at 87 years old still fears the Lord. I have seen God’s Word go full circle according to Psalm 103:17, “But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children.”

My Dad is a first-generation Christian who came to know Jesus at 30 years old!  I am 5 out of 6 children and my Dad was saved the year I was born! So cool! My dad loved me, but I do remember mean words at times and how much they hurt!  Crazy how the ones we love so deeply can hurt us the most!  But there were many sweet words that I remember! My dad loved my mom and to this very day, after 66 years of marriage, he still cherishes her! What a security this gave me as a child and even as an adult.

I believe the love from my father helped me to understand the love of the heavenly Father!  What a responsibility fathers have without even realizing it at times! None of you need me to tell you that dads have a GREAT BIG IMPACT on their children.

I’m so thankful I fell in love with a man who loved Jesus! He loved Jesus, loved me, and was such a great Father.  My husband loved our kids with such a passion, playing with them every chance he got! He taught them to love Jesus and to pray, showing them forgiveness and asking for forgiveness when he wronged them. For these qualities I am forever grateful!  And through the years God graciously gave us children that learned to love and follow Jesus with all their hearts!

And now we have 2 sons and a son-in-law who are fathers that love Jesus and are striving to raise their precious young children God’s way!  I have seen them hug, pray, play, share God’s Word, spank and hug again!

Oh Lord, please allow these precious children to love you with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love others as themselves.

There have been LOTS of ups and downs and bumps in our road! But GOD is faithful and even when we are not faithful, He remains faithful! I know there are SO many stories of Fathers who are following Christ today who are first-generation Christians! How I praise the Lord for you! So many are depending on you!

Psalm 27:10-11 say, “For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
but the Lord will take me in.  Teach me your way, O Lord, and lead me on a level path.”

On this Father’s Day, can I encourage you young fathers to be the first of many generations to follow Jesus with a BOLD, PASSIONATE FAITH? Seek out godly fathers/mentors that you can learn from and grow with! Seek God’s face. Learn from His word and from others and become that Father that is a blessing to his children’s children!

And let me throw this in: For those of you raising busy and sometimes “bad” little boys, always remember there is hope because  “A little boy is the only thing the Lord uses to make a Godly man.”
