Believing God's Promises
Hey PCC family! I want to share with you today about some things God has been showing me lately through a couple songs and scriptures. The songs that have been on repeat in my house and car lately are a song named Do It Again and one named Yes and Amen. Both songs are declarations of belief that Jesus will come through and having the knowledge and belief that He will never leave us and that the things that He promises in His Word are true and we can trust in them.
Psalms 9:9-10: “The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”
2nd Corinthians 1:20: “For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.”
There are times in my life that I can look back on and see when I truly believed those words. If I look at my family’s journey with adoption, I can see times when we prayed specific prayers that were filled with scripture and said with the authority we were given as God’s children. We said prayers and spoke with confidence in the Word of God that our children were going to be in our family forever, even in the times when it was quite literally a day to day guessing game if that was going to happen. We found a peace that we ourselves and people around us didn’t understand because we truly believed what God had breathed into His Word.
I can also see times in my life when I didn’t live like I believed those words. Times when my work life was hard and uncertain and in the same journey of adoption when I thought that if I just worked more and tried harder that I could do something about the situations in my life. I prayed vague and half-hearted prayers because I was scared that He wouldn’t answer them or that I wouldn’t like the answer.
If you go to pleasantcitychurch.com and look at our beliefs, you will see the first one is that “God wrote a book, we believe that the Bible is God’s authoritative, inspired Word and is without error in all its teachings.” My prayer for you, the church, is that you will truly live your life in a way that displays that statement. I know there are times in my life when it seems easy to believe that Jesus was born of a virgin, that He died on a cross and rose three days later. But there are days when it is harder to believe that He is for me, that He loves me, that He will not forsake me and that He has a plan for me and my family - that the promises of provision, blessing, protection, healing and acceptance that are in the Bible are “Yes” because of Jesus and we get to say “Amen (it is true!)”. Because we believe God’s Word, not just in part, but in its entirety. PCC, I pray that you believe the truth and promises in His Word today!
