Christ Be Magnified

Christ Be Magnified NP

I thought I would continue the theme of my last devotional by talking about a song we have been singing lately!  Among the many other things that our current situation with the pandemic has made more difficult, teaching our church new songs has been one of them. As I was recently told by a friend's 6th grade daughter, this song has a lot of, “big words that are hard to understand!”  Christ Be Magnified has quickly become one of my favorite songs to sing, and despite the “big words” it is filled with words and phrases based on Scripture and that call us into a life of devotion to Jesus!

I won’t bow to idols
I’ll stand strong and worship You
And if it puts me in the fire
I’ll rejoice ‘cause You’re there too

This section comes from Daniel 3 and the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. When all hope seemed lost, Jesus showed up in the fire with them, and He always will!

I won't be formed by feelings,
I’ll hold fast to what is true

This line was inspired by Hebrews 2:1. “Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard lest we drift away from it.”  We just finished a message series called “Mixed Messages” that was about this very thing.  We have to hold fast to the truth we see in God’s Word and not be swayed by the feelings that so many in our culture are swayed and sometimes controlled by.

If the cross brings transformation
then I'll be crucified with You

Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” When we let our old self die, we are free to be transformed and made new in Christ!

Cause death is just the doorway
into resurrection life
And if I join You in Your suffering
then I'll join You when You rise

Romans 6:4-5, “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.”

And when You return in glory
with all the angels and the saints
My heart will still be singing
and my song will be the same

Oh! Christ be magnified!

Jesus is going to return one day and I want to be singing with my voice and with my life, Oh! Christ be magnified!
