College is Here!

College Ministry News Post

In college students start trying to figure themselves out: Who am I? What am I going to do with the rest of my life? What do I believe? What is my purpose?

Being mid-September, class is now in full swing, homework is mounting, and homesickness is starting to set in for freshmen and transfer students who have never been away from home for this long. There are many different college students who are a part of our church. Some have come from a long way off and some have lived in Cleveland County their entire lives. As a church we have the opportunity to be in the lives of these students. As individuals in Christ, we have the opportunity to be a major catalyst in their lives.

One of our culture values is “We are Unapologetically Intentional”. This means as a church we take nothing for granted. We want to be intentional about reaching people. Proverbs 14:15 says: “The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.” As an individual, introduce yourself to a college student you might not know on a Sunday morning. It may make a bigger impact than you know. After talking with a few different students last year from Gardner-Webb, one thing that kept coming up is that they loved the senior adults in our church because a few would come up to them every week and ask them how their week was, what was going on in their lives and give them a hug. The common feeling among all of them was that it made them feel like they were at home.

And if you are a college student reading this, I want to assure you that even if you are only with us at Pleasant City for a year or four, you are an important part of our church. We believe God has big plans for your time in college. Your walk with Christ can be very difficult in your college years, one thing that helps is to be in intentional community with others. While college students are welcome to any open connect group, we have two connect groups just for college aged students. One on Sunday mornings at 9:30 in warehouse247 and one on Thursday nights. Click HERE for more information on those groups.

We are also taking a group to Passion 2020 over New Years. Passion 2020 is a conference just for 18-25 year-olds for the purpose of leveraging their lives for what matters most… Christ. You can register for that event HERE

And lastly, we have numerous serving opportunities here at Pleasant City. Babies need holding, children need care, middle and high school students need mentors, people need to be greeted, worship needs to be lead. If you are interested in serving email or call me, Christian Harmon at charmon@pccshelby.com (704)-487-6415
