Goodness of God
We have been singing a song recently named “Goodness of God” and it has been impacting my heart in my personal worship for a while now and I was excited to introduce it to our church a few weeks ago! Everytime we do a new song we try to set it up in some way in an effort to help everyone understand why I chose that song and what it means to myself or whoever is introducing it that morning. We do that because we want to give everyone the opportunity to really understand and grab on to the lyrics of the song. In the chorus of the song we get to sing,
All my life, You have been faithful.
All my life, You have been so, so good.
With every breath that I am able,
I will sing of the goodness of God
Every time I hear and sing those words I reflect back on the times of my life when I see clear evidence of how good God is! From the privilege it was to grow up in a Christian home, to when I married my high school sweetheart, to when God orchestrated the beginning and growing of my family through adoption, to getting to serve and work at a church that I love and want to grow and champion the vision here! God’s goodness is all over my life and I love singing this song because of that. You may be thinking “well that’s good for you and all the good things God has done in your life, but I don’t have those stories.” I know that life is hard, and that it’s not always easy to see God working for the good in our lives. I can look back and see God’s goodness at different times all throughout my life but in the moment and heat of some of those things listed earlier I was screaming for God to show me that He was there. A verse that comes to mind is Psalm 100:5
“For the Lord is good;
His steadfast love endures forever,
and His faithfulness to all generations”
That verse reminds us that even when we don’t feel God’s goodness or we are in a season of stress, worry and doubt that God is good always! We can sing that song no matter how we are feeling at the moment because we can believe God’s word. Our worship is not based on how our circumstances have played out but instead our worship is based on our view of who God is! So no matter what you are feeling today or what your life may look like right now you can still worship God for his goodness because no matter our circumstances God is good and always will be!
