Haneline Family Christmas Memories
Christmas with the HANELINES…well, let’s just say it DOES NOT ever disappoint. It never lacks excitement or fun! There is something about Christmas that just makes me “giddy” inside. It is definitely my favorite time of the year.
The Christmas decorations, trail mix (which I LOVE), Christmas music, sledding in the snow, bundling up from the cold and having a hot cup of coffee, playing board and card games with friends and family, wearing pajama’s all day, and watching our favorite Christmas movies! Oh, how the list of favorites has grown through the years as the kids have gotten older. It went from Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to watching Elf! If we were at my in-laws, we were watching A Christmas Story or Miracle on 34th Street. If we were at my parents’ house, we were watching Home Alone or A Christmas Vacation. We like movies!
A decade ago, Chandler was 10, Carter was 8 and Kensley was 3. Reflecting over the past ten years I have many good memories and realize that my kids have grown up too fast! However, the one Christmas memory that resonates the most is how we as a family try and keep the meaning of Christmas alive and running like a “spring of living water.”
Every Christmas we travel home to spend Christmas with my parents and siblings. I have 4 other siblings and it is the responsibility of a sibling each year to tell the Christmas Story in his or her unique way. Mom always brings out the costumes and all 18 nieces and nephews help act out “for unto us a child is born.” A tradition that has stuck through the decade making sure that each member of the family understands….
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. – Matthew 1:23
Christmas is a time of reflection as well as a time of great JOY! We know that Christmas isn’t just about material gifts under a tree, but about the Fathers gift. Through the decade we have experienced that “every good and perfect gift comes from above.”
From the Haneline household to yours, may God’s blessings be yours this Christmas.
