Ways to pray for our Mission Jamaica Team
In just a few days, Pleasant City Church will be sending a team of 12 on mission to the country of Jamaica. Usually when I think of Jamaica, I think of a vacation. However, many of the villages away from the tourist spots of Jamaica are impoverished, and their poverty extends far beyond the material. There is an absence of the Gospel in these places. This is where our team is headed- into places of despair and darkness. We will be leading VBS for the kids in these villages, visiting lost people in the streets and in homes, as well as discipleship trainings in the local churches. While we are there, you have the opportunity to join us- not in body, but through prayer. Please pray for…
“Oh that You [God] would rend the heavens! That the mountains might shake at Your presence.” – Isaiah 64:1
As believers, we want God to pour out His blessings on the people to who He has called us. Our desire is that these people come to know Jesus as the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We desire God to reveal ways in which He wants to bless the Jamaican people.
“And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”- Acts 2:21
We desire that God would release His Holy Spirit and touch the hearts of people. We want to see their hearts softened and prepared to receive the Gospel.
“So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” – Acts 2:46-47
We realize that as we are in these villages, we will see many homes full of idols, meaningless worship, repetitions of rituals, and hopelessness. Pray that God will open these homes and that whole families would come to Christ and be redeemed. That these homes would become places where the One True and Living God is worshipped.
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill brought low; the crooked places shall be made straight and the rough places smooth; the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.’” – Isaiah 40:3-5
There are many barriers, both physical and spiritual, that will try and block the Gospel. Pray these barriers will be broken down. Pray that God will reveal to us the most effective and appropriate methods to use in proclaiming the Gospel to the people to see churches planted. Pray that these churches will then multiply.
“As you go, preach, saying ‘The Kingdom of Heave is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:7-8
Pray that God would reveal to our team acts of compassion that need to be carried out in the name of Jesus in the community for them to know Him. Pray that just as our team has freely received Christ, that we would also freely show His love to those around us.
We believe God is going to do great things this week in Jamaica, and we are thankful for your prayers and support!
