Why Our Church Supports One Love...
Pleasant City Church has been intentional since 1949 to be faithful to the mandate Jesus gave the church in Matthew 28:19-20 NIV: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
“One Love Skate” is a ministry our church supports that helps us reach our world. This ministry was birthed in 2006 as God put on the heart of Josh Marburger (a youth intern at the time) to reach people in the Skate Community. He saw skate boarding on the church campus as a place that provided a safe environment and gave a platform to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The ministry of One Love has become popular in different parts of the United States including Shelby, NC with a strong presence in Hawaii where Josh and his family presently live. Josh and his family will be with us for both Gatherings July 1 sharing the ministry of One Love. One Love sightings have also taken place in Honduras, Brazil and other parts of the world. What is One Love? I John 4:9 “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.”
One Love Skate is a positive presence in the skate community. One Love Skate (www.oneloveskate.org) is a dynamic discipleship and evangelistic ministry dedicated to sharing the One Love of Jesus outside the walls of the church buildings by partnering with people, churches, and organizations. To learn more about the ministry, check out the website above where you can also find discipleship material to use in many settings.
We have a great opportunity to press on with what Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19-20. We were made to fulfill this mission. These words from Paul are impactful: Acts 20:24 “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the Gospel of God’s grace.”
