Introduction: The Purpose and Progress of the Church can be summed up into 2 Reflexes: “Come & See” and “Go & Tell”. Each week we are invited to “Come & See” what God has done and is doing- we call this Worship. This reflex of the Church establishes its purpose.
When we “Come & See”. . .
A Place becomes a People (Acts 2:1-6)
The Church is NOT a Building we “Go to”
The Church is a People we “Come to”
Self-seeking Fame becomes Spirit-filled Humility (Acts 2:7-12)
The Church is NOT a Status-Building Attempt
The Church is a Jesus-Promoting Culture
Curious Critics become Faithful Followers (Acts 2:13-41)
The Church is NOT a Reprimanding Judgment
The Church is a Rescuing Journey
Emotion becomes Devotion (Acts 2:42-43)
The Church is NOT an Emotionally-Driven Event
The Church is a Relationally-Focused Family
Diversity becomes Unity (Acts 2:44)
The Church is NOT a Social Club
The Church is a Serving Community
A Failed Religion becomes a Fulfilled Kingdom (Acts 2:45-47)
The Church is NOT a Meaningless Ritual
The Church is a Meaningful Relationship
Application: When we “Come & See” each week what God has done and is doing, it doesn’t change the Church near as much as it changes Us. It changes our perspective, attitude, and behavior for our benefit and His glory.
