Spiritual Maturing - Part 3

October 7, 2018 Pastor: Bryan Glisson Series: Royal Invitation: Part 3- Glory

Scripture: Romans 14:13–15:13

Introduction: In the first half of Romans 14, Paul teaches us the importance of accepting each other; now he takes us a step further to teach us how to actively build up each other in the Body of Christ.

"In this way aim for harmony in the church and build each other up."  (Romans 14:19—Living Bible)

Whatever We Do Affects Others

  • Our actions could cause other believers to stumble  (Romans 14:13-14)
  • Our actions could cause other believers to be distressed (Romans 14:15a)
  • Our actions could cause other believers to be destroyed (Romans 14:15b)

How Are We To Build Each Other Up

  • By committing to building each other (Romans 14:19)
  • By recognizing the value of every person (Romans 14:15b)
  • By focusing on what is really important (Romans 14:16-18)
  • By limiting our liberty out of love for each other (Romans 14:20-21) (1 Corinthians 10:23-24)
  • By not forcing our opinion on others (Romans 14:22)
  • By living by faith (Romans 14:23)

Why Are We To Build Each Other Up

  • The Responsibility (Romans 15:1-2)
  • The Reason (Romans 15:3-4)

              The Example of Jesus

              The Teaching of Scripture

  • The Results (Romans 15:5-13)

              Church is Unified

              God is Glorified

Application: Do you see yourself as someone who builds others up or tears others down?  Do you build up the body of Christ or tear down the body of Christ?
