What If? - Part 2

October 21, 2018 Pastor: Bryan Glisson Series: What if?

Scripture: Philippians 2:1–4

What If? is one of the most powerful phrases in the English language. One can look back and say “what if?” and be filled with regret and discouragement. Or one could look forward and say “what if?” and see endless possibilities and opportunities.

In the context of the Church, endless possibilities and opportunities are presented to the Church by the Holy Spirit and carried out by a truth-living, unified Church.

The Expectancy from Unity

Philippians 2:1-4 - The Message

"If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if His love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand."

  • Encouragement (Philippians 2:1a)
  • Love (Philippians 2:1b)   (John 15:12)
  • Fellowship (Philippians 2:1c)
  • Compassion (Philippians 2:1d)   (I Peter 3:8)

The Essence of Unity  (Philippians 2:2a)

      (1 Corinthians 1:10)

      (Hebrews 12:1-3)

The Expression of Unity

  • Corresponding Outlook (Philippians2:2b)

           --being one in spirit

           --being one in purpose

  • Humility (Philippians 2:3)

           --requires an honest evaluation

           --requires courage

  • Consideration (Philippians 2:4)

         (Romans 12:10)

         (Romans 12:16)

         (Romans 12:18)

Application: To accomplish the “What If?” before us, we must be a Holy Spirit led, truth-living, unified Church.
