Introduction: Here in chapter 2, Paul is very transparent as he defends himself from the attacks and rumors that have been brought against him; then in verses 17-20 he gives us insight into what keeps him passionate about serving others even when facing these obstacles.
The Absence of Paul

The Charge: Paul did not care about the them

The Response: Paul longed to be with them (1 Thessalonians 2:17)
The Hindrance of the Enemy

The Attempts: Paul tries to come to them (1 Thessalonians 2:18a)

The Obstacle: Satan (1 Thessalonians 2:18b)
The Enemy Hinders The Follower Through:
--suffering (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
--others (Matthew 16:23)
--temptation (Luke 4:13)
--deceit (2 Corinthians 11:14) (John 8:44)
The Enemy Is Limited When It Comes To Hindering:
--he must have permission (Job & Peter)
--he cannot ultimately hinder the work of God (Paul & Jesus)
