When You Pursue Purity
July 21, 2019 Pastor: Bryan Glisson Series: Flourish
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:1–8
Definition of Flourish: to be healthy and thriving; to blossom; to be at the height of influence—“that you should abound more and more” (I Thessalonians 4:1b)
Introduction: Did the fact you are a follower of Christ affect the way you lived this passed week? How you spoke? How you acted? How you reacted? What you put before your eyes? What about the conversations you entertained? What you believe determines how you walk—live your life.
The Appeal—“you ought…to please God”
Our Christian Faith Is To Be:
- Applied To Every Area Of Our Lives (I Thessalonians 4:1) (Romans 12:1)
-
Built On The Word Of God (I Thessalonians 4:2)
-
Founded On The Will Of God (I Thessalonians 4:3a)
The Answer—“sanctification”
Sanctification Is The Process Of:
-
Abstaining From Sexual Immorality (I Thessalonians 4:3b)
-
Controlling One’s Body (I Thessalonians 4:4)
-
Resisting Lustful Passion (I Thessalonians 4:5)
The Admonition—“be forewarned”
Sexual Immorality:
-
Steals From Other’s (I Thessalonians 4:6a)
-
Invites God’s Judgment (I Thessalonians 4:6b) (Hebrews 13:4)
-
Distorts God’s Purpose (I Thessalonians 4:7)
-
Rejects God’s Spirit (I Thessalonians 4:8)
Application: Are you aware of the cost of sexual immorality? What are you doing to protect yourself from falling into sexual sin? Are you living a life that pleases God?
