When You Live Out Your Faith

July 28, 2019 Pastor: Gary Marburger Series: Flourish

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:9–12

Introduction: John MacArthur says, “Christianity is a shoe   leather faith – a living, practical faith that hits the streets in normal, everyday life, affecting everything from the believer’s simplest attitudes and most mundane actions to their  profoundest thoughts and noblest deeds.”

Four very practical commands we must put into practice:

Grow in Love More and More (I Thessalonians 4:9-10)

  • Believers need each other to make it through life (Ecclseastes 4:9-10)
  • Lack of love leads to strife and divisiveness (I John 4:19-21)

            Listen

            Overlook

            Value

            Express

  Lead a Quiet Life (I Thessalonians 4:11)

  • To live quietly implies we are to live peaceably with others
  • As Believers we must learn to be quiet and listen to others

Mind Your Own Affairs (I Thessalonians 4:11)

  • A person meddles because:

        ○ he is critical by nature

        ○ he fails to see his own shortcomings and failures (Matthew 7:3-5)

        ○ he fails to look after his own affairs like he should

        ○ he does not have enough to do

• Be so occupied with the things of Jesus that we have no time to meddle in the affairs of others

Work With Your Hands (I Thessalonians 4:11-12)

• Work to subdue and gain dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:28)

• Work to provide the necessities of life (Genesis 2:15)

• Work to have enough to give to those in need (Ephesians 4:28)

Application: When my faith hits the streets, is it making an impact for Christ?
