When Opposition Arises

December 1, 2019 Pastor: Bryan Glisson Series: Daniel: Character in the Making

Scripture: Daniel 6:1–28

Introduction: How is it that Daniel could have a profound impact on the lives of the most powerful men of his day?  What did they see in him? How did Daniel overcome the opposition that arose in his life?  (Romans 5:3-5)

The Plan of the King  (Daniel 6:1-3)

The Plot of the Accusers

  • The Blameless (Daniel 6:4)
  • His Refusal (Daniel 1:8)
  • His Reputation (Daniel 5:13-14)
  • His Routine (Daniel 6:10)
  • The Blamers (Daniel 6:5-15)  (James 1:2-4)

The Predicament of Daniel  (Daniel 6:16-17)

The Panic of the King  (Daniel 6:18-20)

The Protection of Daniel

  • His Respect (Daniel 6:21)
  • His Rescuer (Daniel 6:22a)
  • His Revelation (Daniel 6:22b)
  • His Release (Daniel 6:23a)
  • His Record (Daniel 6:23b)
  • His Redemption (Daniel 6:24) (Psalm 37)

The Proclamation of the King  (Daniel 6:25-27)

The Promotion of Daniel  (Daniel 6:28)

Application: How do you deal with opposition in your life? Do you take matters into your own hands? Do you respond with vengeful thinking? Or do you trust that the Lord will handle your opposition?

Conclusion:  When in the midst of opposition:

  • Realize that God knows your situation
  • Be more concerned for God’s Glory than your deliverance
  • Acknowledge the source of your opposition, but keep your eyes on the Lord
  • Pray for wisdom, discernment, and patience
  • Stay calm and confident giving God time to work through your situation
  • View your situation as a means to grow your faith
  • Trust God to deliver you in His own unique way
  • Continue to praise Him in the midst of your distress
