“Hope For The Seekers—Simeon”
Luke 2:25-35
Definition of Biblical Hope: not wishful thinking; but assured, confident, eagerly anticipated expectation; a firm assurance supported by the promises of God Word’s regarding things that are unseen, unclear and/or unknown
(Romans 8:24-25) (Hebrews 11:1)
Introduction: The Christmas Story is filled with sub-stories of those who seem to have small roles but powerful encounters. Simeon is one who would fit this billing yet his story is bursting with hope. (Luke 2:25a)
The Prophesy Of Hope
- By The Old Testament (Luke 2:25b) (Isaiah 7:14) (Isaiah 9:6)
- By The Holy Spirit (Luke 2:25c)
- By The Prophet, Simeon (Luke 2:26)
The Person Of Hope
- The Child of Mary (Luke 2:27) (Matthew 1:21-23)
- The Salvation of Mankind (Luke 2:28-32) (Luke 2:10-11)
The Pertinence Of Hope
- To Astound (Luke 2:33) (Luke 2:18-19) (Luke 2:47)
- To Reveal & Expose (Luke 2:34-35) (John 1:10-14) (John 3:36) (Luke 12:51-53)
- To Redeem (Luke 2:36-38) (Isaiah 53:3-7)
Application: For those who are seeking, the “Thrill of Hope” is only found in the Christmas Child— Jesus Christ. Have you found hope (not wishful thinking; but assured, confident, eagerly anticipated expectation promised in God’s Word) in the Savior?
