Title: Stay The Course
Text: James 1:12-18

Reflect: What is one area of my life in which I need to stay the course?

blessings from James 1:12-18 to help us stay the course and enjoy the ride:

1.) Eternal Perspective (James 1:12)

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” - James 1:12 ESV

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” - John 10:10 NLT

2.) Testing the Truth (James 1:13-16)

3.) Receiving God’s Call to Community (James 1:17-18)

  • ↑ Faith in our Good Father
  • ↓ Fellowship with God’s People (Romans 16:5; 1 Corinthians 16:15)

Discussion Questions:

  1. Discuss how the slippery slope into moral failure described in James 1:14-15 can play out in our lives.

  2. Which part of the message do I most need to remember and apply this week?

  3. Who is a beloved brother or sister that I need to connect with to help us both stay the course?

Welcome The Healer

Come like You want to
Come like You want to
Jesus, have Your way
God of the breakthrough
Nothing can stop You
Let Your freedom reign

You're falling now like heaven's rain
Enthroned upon Your children's praise
You're tearing down our barricades
As we sing

We welcome the healer in this place
We welcome the author of our faith
We welcome the God who makes a way
His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus

High King of Heaven
Here in our presence
Oh, how good You are

You're falling now like heaven's rain
Enthroned upon Your children's praise
You're tearing down our barricades
As we sing

We welcome the healer in this place
We welcome the author of our faith
We welcome the God who makes a way
His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus

Let Your living waters
Fall on sons and daughters
We will not resist Your heart
Come and bring the breakthrough
We surrender to You
All our hope is in You, God

We welcome the healer in this place
We welcome the author of our faith
We welcome the God who makes a way
His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus

We welcome the healer in this place
We welcome the author of our faith
We welcome the God who makes a way
His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus

You're falling now like heaven's rain
Enthroned upon Your children's praise
You're tearing down our barricades
As we sing

We welcome the healer in this place
We welcome the author of our faith
We welcome the God who makes a way
His name is Jesus
His name is Jesus

Another In The Fire

There's a grace when the heart is under fire
Another way when the walls are closing in
And when I look at the space between
Where I used to be and this reckoning
I know I will never be alone

There was another in the fire
Standing next to me
There was another in the waters
Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding
Of how I've been set free
There is a cross that bears the burden
Where another died for me
There is another in the fire

All my debt left for dead beneath the waters
I'm no longer a slave to my sin anymore
And should I fall in the space between
What remains of me and this reckoning
Either way I won't bow to the things of this world
And I know I will never be alone

There is another in the fire
Standing next to me
There is another in the waters
Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding
What power set me free
There is a grave that holds no body
And now that power lives in me
There is another in the fire
There is another in the fire
There is another in the fire
There is another in the fire

And I can see the light in the darkness
As the darkness bows to Him
I can hear the roar in the heavens
As the space between wears thin
I can feel the ground shake beneath us
As the prison walls cave in
Nothing stands between us
Nothing stands between us

There is no other name but the name that is Jesus
He who was and still is, and will be through it all
So come what may in the space between
All the things unseen and this reckoning
And I know I will never be alone
And I know I will never be alone

There'll be another in the fire
Standing next to me
There'll be another in the waters
Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding
How good You've been to me
I'll count the joy come every battle
'Cause I know that's where You'll be

And I can see the light in the darkness
As the darkness bows to Him
I can hear the roar in the heavens
As the space between wears thin
I can feel the ground shake beneath us
As the prison walls cave in
Nothing stands between us
Nothing stands between

There'll be another in the fire
Standing next to me
There'll be another in the waters
Holding back the seas
And should I ever need reminding
How good You've been to me
I'll count the joy come every battle
'Cause I know that's where You'll be

Way Maker

Even when I don't see it, You're working
Even when I don't feel it, You're working
You never stop, You never stop working
You never stop, You never stop working

Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper
Light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are

Way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper
Light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are
Sing that is who You are

Oh, that is who You are
That is who You are
Oh and, that is who You are
That is who You are
Yeah, and that is who You are, yeah
That is who You are
Oh, that is who You are
That is who You are
