THIS MEANS WAR
“The Battle Gear”
Ephesians 6:10-18

Introduction:  As already stated we need to be aware and alert that we are in a battle for our soul.  We war against the enemy, the world, and our flesh.  These must be fought with the weapons given to us by God.  (Ephesians 6:10-13) (Galatians 5:16-17) (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)

The Belt of Truth  (Ephesians 6:14a)

  • Know the Total Truth of God’s Word
  • Live the Total Truth of God’s Word
  • Declare the Total Truth of God’s Word

Bottom Line:  Be committed to the truth of God’s Word (Psalms 51:6)

The Breastplate of Righteousness  (Ephesians 6:14b)

  • Imputed Righteousness—to ascribe something (namely Jesus’ righteousness) to someone who is not capable of living the standard of God’s righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21)
  • Imparted Righteousness—to give something (namely the power) to someone to enable them to overcome their flesh and sin (John 1:12)

The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace  (Ephesians 6:15)

  • Walk in good works (Ephesians 2:10)
  • Walk worthy of your calling (Ephesians 4:1)
  • Walk differently than the world (Ephesians 4:17)
  • Walk in love (Ephesians 5:2)
  • Walk in the light (Ephesians 5:8)
  • Walk circumspectly (Ephesians 5:15)

The Shield of Faith  (Ephesians 6:16) (Hebrews 11:6)

Watch For Fiery Darts:

  • Doubt  (1 Thessalonians 5:24)
  • Fear  (Psalm 23:4)
  • Temptation  (1 Corinthians 10:13)

The Helmet of Salvation  (Ephesians 6:17a)

  • Past—security (justification)  (Romans 5:1)
  • Present—power (sanctification)  (2 Thessalonians 2:13)
  • Future—victory (glorification)  (1 Peter 1:3-5)

The Sword of the Spirit  (Ephesians 6:17b)

  • Logos—the total revelation of God to a general audience
  • Rhema—the specific revelation of God to an individual or group (Acts 10:36-37)

Footnote: (Ephesians 6:18) Even though the weapons are mighty; communication is essential to the soldier.

Application:  To Be Successful In The War, We Must:

--Analyze Our Enemy
--Utilize Our Weaponry
--Realize Our Victory

(Romans 8:37)
