PROMISE KEPT
“The Promises Of Salvation”
Ephesians 1:5-14

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
he is a new creation;

old things have passed away;
behold, all things have become new.”  (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Introduction: While the resurrection of Jesus guarantees my salvation the cross of Jesus makes my salvation possible and provides me with promised benefits. These promises are founded on the phrase “in Christ.” When I begin to understand the promises of what it means to be “in Christ” I begin to know my true identity, my privileges, and my purpose.

The Promises Provided by the Cross Include That:

He Has Adopted Me—I Am Family  (Ephesians 1:5)

  • “predestined” chosen to be part of His family (Romans 8:29a)
  • “good pleasure of His will” it pleased God to do so (Philippians 2:13)

He Has Accepted Me—I Am Established  (Ephesians 1:6)

  • “glory of His grace” grace on display
  • “He made us accepted” established me
  • “in the Beloved” provided by Christ

He Has Redeemed Us—I Am Forgiven  (Ephesians 1:7)

  • “we have redemption” freed the powerless (Revelation 5:9)
  • “through His blood” only payment for sin (Revelation 1:5-6)
  • “forgiveness of sins” released from payment (Psalm 103:12)
  • “riches of His grace” He reached out to me (Romans 5:20)

He Has Enlightened Me—I Am Given Wisdom (Ephesians 1:8-9)

  • “all wisdom” ability to apply
  • “all prudence” ability to understand
  • “the mystery of His will” truth once concealed is now revealed (Colossians 2:2b-3)

He Has Provided For Me—I Have An Inheritance (1 Peter 1:3-5)

  • There is a Plan (Ephesians 1:10) (Philippians 2:10-11)
  • There is a Purpose (Ephesians 1:11-12)
       “obtained an inheritance” will not fail
       “predestined” has already happened
       “works all things” not only creates but energizes
       “praise of His glory” for His glory
  • There is a Promise (Ephesians 1:13-14)
       “you…trusted” connection between me and God
       “word of truth” connection between God and I
       “having believed” connection made
       “sealed with the Holy Spirit” connection secured
       “the guarantee” of my connection with Him
       “praise of His glory” for His glory

Application: What is my response to Jesus’ promise of salvation and its benefits and provisions?
