Message Points

ROOTED—“70 Days of Growing Deep”
Week 2—Loving God—Personal Worship

Introduction: Our worship is our response to God’s love. However, our response is more than song. True worship changes us from the inside out, as clearly seen in Romans 12:1.

The Purpose of Worship

  • To Respond to God’s Love (Romans 5:8)
  • To Magnify Jesus  (Psalm 34:3)
  • To Attempt to See God as He Really Is (then in turn see ourselves as we truly are)  (Isaiah 6:1-5)

The Process of Worship  (Colossians 3)

  • Begins in the Word (Colossians 3:16a)
  • Inspires Others (Colossians 3:16b)
  • Celebrates God (Colossians 3:16c)
  • Extends into Daily Living (Colossians 3:17a)
  • Awakens Praise (Colossians 3:17b)

The Personification of Worship  (Romans 12)

  • Dedication To God (Romans 12:1a)

    --it is a response  (therefore)
    --it is voluntary  (present, offer)
    --it is practical  (body)
    --it is surrender  (sacrifice)
  • Inspiration From God (Romans 12:1b)
  • Insulation From the World (Romans 12:2a)
  • Transformation By God (Romans 12:2b)

    --it is life-altering  (renewing)
    --it is verifiable  (prove)
    --it is profitable  (good)
    --it is well-pleasing  (acceptable)
    --it is the goal  (perfect)

Conclusion: God is more interested in who we are becoming in Him than what we are doing for Him. Who we are becoming in Him should be the greatest ambition of our worship—then comes what we do for Him.

Application: What is keeping you from personal worship? What is keeping you from becoming all that God desires you to be in Him?
