ROOTED—“70 Days of Growing Deep”
Week 6—Connecting with Others—Rooted in Connection
Ephesians 4:12-16
Introduction: The Holy Spirit’s role in your life is to teach you, convict you, and guide you to become a follower of Jesus. He does this by placing you in a local church with other followers of Jesus that help you become “rooted” (spiritually mature) in His Word and His best for your life. His expectation is that you become “rooted” and then share your life with others that they may become “rooted.”
The Tasks of the Rooted
- “equipping”—to add what is needed to be complete (Ephesians 4:12a)
- “edifying”—to strengthen by instruction (Ephesians 4:12b)
The Target of being Rooted (Ephesians 4:13)
- “unity of the faith”—oneness
- “knowledge of the Son of God”—accurate
- “perfect man”—mature
- “fullness of Christ”—complete
“The Bible was not written to satisfy your curiosity but to make you conform to Christ’s image. Not to make you a smarter sinner, but to make you like the Savoir. Not to fill your head with a collection of biblical facts, but to transform your life.”
The Testimony of the Rooted
- Follows Correct Doctrine (Ephesians 4:14a)
- Not Easily & Comfortably Deceived (Ephesians 4:14b)
- Confronts Lovingly (Ephesians 4:15a)
- Belongs to a Local Church
--grows within the church (Ephesians 4:15b)
--connects within the church (Ephesians 4:16a)
--serves within the church (Ephesians 4:16b)
Application: Would you describe yourself as being “rooted” (spiritually mature)? How are you investing in others to help them become “rooted?”
