THE WORDS THAT STOLE CHRISTMAS
Selected Proverbs

Introduction: Words have a power all their own. More painful than the bumps we suffer in daily life are the words that wound. How much heartache could be spared from relationships simply by saying nothing. But too often, our tongues are the tool of the enemy. (Proverbs 3:5-6) 

Six types of speech (words) that steal and destroy:

• Lying – Be Honest (Proverbs 12:17-22) (John 8:31-32) (Proverbs 24:26)
• Gossiping – Pray For Others (Proverbs 18:7-8) (Proverbs 11:13) (Proverbs 17:9)
• Talking Too Much – Slow To Speak  (Proverbs 10:19) (Proverbs 15:23)
• Talking Too Soon – Listen Well  (Proverbs 18:12-13) (James 1:19)
• Flattery – Honest Encouragement  (Proverbs 26:28) (Proverbs 29:5)
• Harsh Words – Graciously Answer Softly  (Philippians 4:5) (Proverbs 15:1-2)

Application:  Think about these things as we head into the New Year. Will my words help this situation? Am I the one to say this? Does this need to be said? Is this the right time? (Psalm 19:14)
