JESUS, LIKE NO OTHER
His Resolute Mission & Transcendent Love
Selected Passages

Introduction: Jesus’ resolute mission that led to the cross was not only a matter of His obedience to His Father; but also, a motivation of His love for those who would follow Him.

His Resolute Mission

From the Beginning in His Childhood (Luke 2:41-52)

From the Beginning of His Public Ministry (Luke 3:21-23; Luke 4:14-21, Luke 4:42-44) (John 1:29) (Mark 1:14-15)

Throughout His Public Ministry

--possible distractions to His mission
   --the temptations of Satan
--His power (Luke 4:1-4, Luke 8:22-25)
--His popularity (Luke 4:5-8, Luke 9:23-26)
--the traditions of the religious (Luke 6:1-11)
   --the expectations of others
      --His neighbors (Luke 4:22-30)
         --His disciples (Luke 6:12-16)
      --His family (Luke 8:19-21)

--precise determination for His mission
--concerning getting to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51-56)
--concerning His death & resurrection (Luke 18:31-34)

To the End of His Public Ministry
--before His death (Luke 22:39-44) (Matthew 16:21) (John 7:8)
   --after His resurrection (Luke 24:45-49)

His Transcendent Love

He Loved Us First (1 John 4:19)
He Loved Us when we were Unlovely (Romans 5:6,8)

“Christ arrives right on time to make this happen.
He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready.

He presented Himself for this sacrificial death when we were far too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have known what to do anyway.”

“But God put His love on the line for us by offering His Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use whatever to Him.” (Romans 5:6,8—The Message)

He Forgave Us (Ephesians 4:32)
He Made Us Right Before God (Romans 5:1)
He Desires to spend Eternity with Us (John 3:16)

Application: Jesus’ transcendent love for us demands a response—to follow Him or ignore Him. It also demands reflection—to remember Him and identify with Him. What is your response to His pursuing love? (Luke 22:14-20)
