MAJOR MESSAGES FROM THE MINOR PROPHETS
“Why, God?”
Habakkuk 1:1-3:19

Introduction: God uses the Minor Prophets to convey Major Messages to His people- not just then, but even Now.

A Perplexing Question with a Permissive Society (Habakkuk 1:1-4)

• Why does God allow Evil to Continue?
  • Man-Made Answers:
    • God is All-Loving, but not All-Powerful
    • God is All-Powerful, but not All-Loving
    • God has a Good and Evil Side

A Heavenly Response with a Harsh Resolution (Habakkuk 1:5-11)

• God does NOT Create Evil
  • Because God is All-Loving, He created us with Freewill to choose Him or Sin.
  • Sin is not a Created thing, its the void of God’s Goodness.
  • Therefore, our Freewill to choose Sin establishes this Relational Void of God that we call “Evil”.
• God Controls Evil
  • Because God is All-Powerful, His sovereignty demands that He be in control of everything.
  • Therefore, God controls both good and evil to bring about His glory and our gain.

A Wanted Reply with an Unwanted Answer (Habakkuk 1:12-2:1)

• What do you do when what you see is not consistent with what you feel?

An Earthly Vision with an Eternal Perspective (Habakkuk 2:2-20)

• The Wicked live by Fame in their Vanity of Corruption
• The Righteous live by Faith in the Victory of Christ

The Major Message: Faith (Habakkuk 3:1-19)

• Our Faith Surrenders: Listen, Write, Wait
• Our Faith Sees: We’re not fixed on a Secular Solution, but on a Sovereign Savior
• Our Faith Soars: “While Sin places me in Adam’s Fall, Faith sets me higher in God’s Glory”
