THE SUPREMACY OF CHRIST
“The Gospel Delivers”
Colossians 1:4-8

Introduction: The basic components of the Christian experience are faith (past), love (present), and hope (future) (Colossians 1:4-5a). The catalyst for the Christian experience is the gospel. 

How Does The Gospel Work? (2 Ingredients)

A Truthful Message

Factual Truth (Colossians 1:5b)
  --what is the gospel? (good news) (1 Corinthians 15:1-5) (Galatians 1:8)
  --what is truth? (absolute vs. relative) (John 17:17)
Personal Truth (Colossians 1:6a)
Universal Truth (Colossians 1:6b, 23)
Practical Truth (Colossians 1:6c)
  --the gospel truth produces fruit (Matthew 13:23)
  --the gospel truth brings understanding (1 Thessalonians 1:5) (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)
  --the gospel truth extends grace (John 1:17)

A Faithful Messenger

The Link (Colossians 1:7-8)
The Passion (Colossians 4:12-13a)
The Responsibility--As It Relates to the Gospel, We Should:
  --proclaim it (Mark 16:15)
  --advance it (Romans 10:13-17)
  --defend it (1 Peter 3:15)
  --suffer for it (2 Timothy 3:12)
  --do not hinder it (1 Corinthians 9:12)
  --do not be ashamed of it (Romans 1:16a)
  --realize it carries divine empowerment (Romans 1:16b)
