“The Truth”
Colossians 2:1-7

Introduction: The best way not to be taken in by that, which is false, is to know (from facts to experience) that which is true

A Prayer That Truth Would Be Experienced (Colossians 2:1)

That Truth will be Appropriated
--hearts strengthened (Colossians 2:2a)
--love undeniable (Colossians 2:2b)
--mystery understood (Colossians 2:2c-3)

That Error will be Avoided
--from deceptive persuasive words (Colossians 2:4)
--to steadfast faith (Colossians 2:5)

A Pattern That Truth Would Be Established

Justification (Colossians 2:6a)
--instant“received Christ Jesus the Lord”
--initiated by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3)
--has been declared righteous (Romans 5:1)
--has been redeemed & reconciled (Romans 5:10)
--has been saved from sin’s penalty (1 John 4:10)
--has been given spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:11)
--has started the race (2 Timothy 4:7)

Sanctification (Colossians 2:6b-7)
--process—"walk” “rooted” “built up” “established” “abounding in gratitude”
--influenced by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18)
--is being transformed (2 Corinthians 3:16-18)
--is being renewed  (2 Corinthians 4:16)
--is being saved from sin’s power (Romans 8:5)
--is producing spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23)
--is running the race (Hebrews 12:1-2a)

Application: Are you experiencing the truth and reality of Jesus, or do you just know facts about Him?

Is your faith rooted, built up, and established in God’s Word to the point that it could withstand the deception and fallacies of this world?
