SMOKE & MIRRORS
“Intellectualism”
Colossians 2:8-10
Introduction: The best way not to be taken in by that, which is false, is to know (from facts to experience) that which is true. The false teachers in the first century taught about a four-headed monster that consisted of intellectualism, ritualism, mysticism, and legalism.
The Futility of “Jesusless” Philosophy (Colossians 2:8)
“Jesusless” Philosophy is a philosophy that attempts to explain the great problems and mysteries of life apart from the Word of God, and the Work of Jesus through the Cross.

A Question of Human Dignity:

A Question of Human Duty:
Is there a purpose for my existence?
Where Am I Going? Answer: ???
A Question of Human Destiny:
Is there hope beyond my current existence?

A “Jesus” Philosophy Encompasses the Following:
- God is all-powerful, and all-knowing and desires to have a relationship with us
- God created the world and will be its judge
- God created us in His own image
- We fell into sin and are totally depraved
- God began to reach out to us by revealing Himself and what He expects—through individuals and His Word
- God became a Man through Jesus—the eternal Son of God
- God provided His Son, Jesus, for our sinful and depraved condition and the penalty of our sin through the His death, burial, and resurrection
- God built His kingdom from those who received salvation from His redemptive plan
- God through His Son, Jesus, sent the Holy Spirit to help us, grow in our faith
- God will send His Son, Jesus, back to this world to receive us—the Church (Followers of Jesus)
