REVIVING THE WOUNDED HEART
“The Pursuit of Transformation”
Selected Passages
Introduction: Our identity as a follower of Jesus is one of transformation, moving from our old life before salvation to our new life now, becoming more like Him.
The Benefits of Transformation Through Forgiveness?
Identify with Jesus (the story of Joseph)
Proper Perspective
--through the lens of grace
|--through the lens of God’s sovereignty (2 Corinthians 12:7-10)
Good Health (Proverbs 3:5-8)
Personal Peace (Philippians 4:6-7)
Abundant Life (John 10:10) (Luke 4:16-21)
Reconciliation
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ
[joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior],
he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit];
the old things [the previous spiritual condition]
have passed away.
Behold, new things have come
[because spiritual awakening brings a new life].
But all these things are from God,
who reconciled us to Himself through Christ
[making us acceptable to Him]
and gave us the ministry of reconciliation
[so that by our example we might bring others to Him],
that is, that God was in Christ
reconciling the world to Himself,
not counting people’s sins against them [but canceling them].
And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation
[that is, restoration to favor with God].
(2 Corinthians 5:17-19--Amplified Bible)
The Path To Transformation From Hurt to Forgiveness
The Questions:
--who has hurt you? --identify the person(s):
--how does it make you feel? --identify the pain:
--what is your natural inclination? --identify the lies:
--what does God’s Word say? --identify the truth:
The Exchange:
--the lie for truth --the darkness for light
--the disease for healing --the feeling for faith
--the bondage for freedom
The Memory Verses:
“Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters,
by the mercies of God,
to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart]
as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God,
which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.
And do not be conformed to this world
[any longer with its superficial values and customs],
but be transformed and progressively changed
[as you mature spiritually]
by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values],
so that you may prove [for yourselves]
what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable
and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].”
(Romans 12:1-2--Amplified Bible)
(Colossians 3:13)
“For the weapons of our warfare
are not carnal (from within ourselves)
but mighty (powerful) in God (from the Holy Spirit)
for pulling down strongholds, (fortresses/ imprisonments)
casting down arguments (rationalizations)
and every high thing (idols—belief system against God’s truth)
that exalts itself against (takes precedence over)
the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought (that is against God’s truth)
into captivity (capture it and bring under submission)
to the obedience of Christ
(His provision and protection for you).”
(2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
(Romans 8:28)
The Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I forgive ____________ for ___________ (offense)
because You freely have forgiven me
and have commanded me to forgive others.
Lord, I ask You to replace my pride with Your grace.
I confess and repent of my attitude and spirit of unforgiveness.
I do not excuse this person’s offense in any way,
nor do I use any excuse for not extending forgiveness.
I drop all charges and judgments against this person
releasing me from the bondage of anger and bitterness.
Thank you, Lord, for enabling me to forgive.
IN JESUS NAME, AMEN
The Proof:
How will you know you have truly forgiven your offender?
--anger will turn to a gentle spirit
--bitterness will turn to a grateful heart
--an unforgiving spirit will turn to compassion|
which will bring freedom from bondage & peace from hostility.
