FINANCIAL BONDAGE
Selected Passages
Introduction: Few things cause more problems, difficulties, worries, and stress than being in financial bondage. 64 % of all marriages argue about money, while 54 % of all divorces are caused by financial tension.
How To Avoid Financial Bondage:
Keep Good Records
The Principle: Accounting
The Proverb: Proverbs 27:23-24a
“Be diligent to know the state of your flocks,
and attend to your herds; for riches are not forever….”
4 Things You Need To Know:
--what you own --what you owe
--what you earn --where it goes
Plan Your Spending
The Principle: Goal-Setting (Budgeting)
The Proverb: Proverbs 21:5; 22:7
“The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty,
but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.”
“The rich rules over the poor,
and the borrower is servant (in bondage) to the lender.”
The Problems:
--impulse spending
--spend-it-all spending
--one-up spending
Save For the Future

The Proverbs: Proverbs 21:20; Proverbs 13:11
Enjoy What You Already Have
The Principle: Contentment
The Proverb: Proverbs 21:17

Save 15%
Live Off Of 70% to 75%
Conclusion: (Moving towards Financial Freedom)
Step 1: Set up $1000 Emergency Fund
Step 2: Pay Off Debt Quickly
(take extreme measures—sell something)
Start with Credit Card Debt
(begin with lowest amount owed then work your way up)
Then Automobiles; etc
(then begin immediately to save for next)
Only owe mortgage at this point
Step 3: Save 3 to 6 Months Expenses
(put in Money Market Account—draws interest)
Step 4: Invest 15% of Income in Retirement Plans
(if employer matches begin immediately; do not wait for step 4)
Step 5: Save for College for Children
(put savings in safe investment fund)
Step 6: Pay Off Home
Step 7: Build Wealth & Give
The goal is to get to the next step as soon as possible without endangering your personal and spiritual health, as well as the health of your family.
