SURVIVE AND THRIVE
“Jesus’ Salvation”
1 Peter 1:1-5
Introduction: The purpose of 1st Peter is to encourage followers of Jesus that they can survive and thrive even in suffering.
“After you have suffered a little while, our God, who is full of kindness through Christ, will give you His eternal glory. He personally will come and pick you up, and set you firmly in place, and make you stronger than ever.” (1 Peter 5:10—TLB)
“God raising you from the dead as He did Christ. When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive—through Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.” (Colossians 2:13-15—Message)
The Assurances of the Trinity
Father—Sovereignty (1 Peter 1:1-2a)
--“elect”
--“foreknowledge” (Romans 10:11-13) (Ephesians 1:3-5)
Holy Spirit—Sanctifying (1 Peter 1:2b) (Ephesians 2:10)
Son—Sacrifice (1 Peter 1:2c) (Revelation 1:5-6)
The Guarantees of Salvation
A New Life—Reborn (1 Peter 1:3)
An Eternal Inheritance—Reserved (1 Peter 1:4)
An Unchallenged Power—Reigning (1 Peter 1:5a) (2 Kings 6:16-17)
A Glorious Future—Revealed (1 Peter 1:5b)
Application: The reality of a follower of Jesus is based on the assurances of the Trinity and the guarantees of the salvation. Do these assurances and guarantees characterize your existence?
