SURVIVE AND THRIVE
“Responding God’s Way"
I Peter 3:13-22 

Series Introduction: The purpose of 1st Peter is to encourage followers of Jesus that they can survive and thrive even in suffering.

Following steadfast after Christ even when persecuted (ridiculed) involves:

Doing What is Right and Good (I Peter 3:13-14)
(Matthew 16:24-25) (2 Corinthians 4:16-18) (John 14:27)

Be courageous and stay focused on Jesus.

God promises as we face fears:

• He will work all things out for good – Romans 8:28
• He will provide all our needs in life – Matthew 6:33
• He provides great rewards for those who stand in fear and suffering – Matthew 5:11-12
• He will preserve us and take us to heaven as we stand in him against our fears and suffering – II Timothy 4:8

Let’s resolve

• I will keep the witness of Christ strong in my life
• I will count my blessings
• I will use this suffering to try to bring those I love to Christ
• I will not complain

Setting Your Heart on Jesus & The Hope He Offers (I Peter 3:15)

Make the Lord dominant in all areas of my life: my possessions, my work, my marriage, my spare time (1 Corinthians 16:13-14)

Being Ready to Answer and Defend the Hope Within Us (1 Peter 3:15b) (Colossians 4:6)

Am I willing and ready to share Christ?

Fessing up When You Mess Up…Don’t Give Up (I Peter 3:16-17)

Focusing on Jesus (I Peter 3:18-22) (John 16:33)

Application:  As followers of Christ, we are responsible to defend our faith.   We defend our faith by articulating what we believe and by living steadfast for Jesus Christ.  In following after Christ we determine how we behave in the face of persecution.
