SURVIVE AND THRIVE
“Don’t Waste Your Life"
I Peter 4:1-6

Series Introduction:  The purpose of 1st Peter is to encourage followers of Jesus that they can survive and thrive even in suffering.

Introduction:  Peter says a lot about time and gives us wisdom on using our time.  If we really believe in eternity and if we really believe what we read in God’s Word, we will make the best use of our time.  (Psalm 90:12)

4 Ways We Can Invest Our Time:

Avoiding Sin (I Peter 4:1) (Luke 22:41-44) (Luke 9:23)

Delighting in God’s Will (I Peter 4:2) (I Peter 4:2) (Matthew 6:33)
(I Thessalonians 4:3 & 5:18)

Abandoning Our Past (I Peter 4:3) (Matt 5:16) (I John 1:9) (Ephesians 5:16)

Investing in Reaching the World (I Peter 4:4-6) (Acts 2:46-47)

   Devoted – It was their passion and heart’s desire to follow after Christ wholeheartedly
   Joyful – Their focus was on Jesus and joy flowed out of this Early Church’s life. 
   Humble – It was all about others, not themselves.
   Finding Favor – Unbelievers could see a difference in their lives

Application:  When we survive and thrive, we follow these simple yet difficult verses found here in I Peter.  The persecution we may face can make us homesick for a better place – eternity with Jesus.  Let’s not waste our lives, but invest for eternity. (II Thimothy 4:7-8)
