SURVIVE AND THRIVE
“Shepherd the Flock"
1 Peter 5:1-4
Series Introduction: The purpose of 1st Peter is to encourage followers of Jesus that they can survive and thrive even in suffering.
Introduction: These four verses are very significant when we look at the context of church history. The church today needs a clear vision of how Christ wants His church to be organized and to function.
Peter’s Credentials (1 Peter 5:1)
- Personal Life Experience
- Personal Intimacy with the Good Shepherd (Matthew 16:21-24)
- Promise of the Glory to be revealed
Picture of a Pastor (1 Peter 5:2-3)
- Pastors Should Function As A Team
- Pastors Should fulfill their calling to the local church
- Pastors must be Shepherds (John 21:15-17) (John 10:11)
Pastors are to:
- Feed the sheep
- Guide the sheep
- Protect the sheep
- Know the sheep;
- Proper Motivation for a Pastor (Matthew 20:28) (Phil 2:3-5)
The Promise for the Pastor (1 Peter 5:4)
Application: God desires Pastors to be Shepherds who love their flock, uphold the value of God’s Word, are faithful to teach in and out of season, and are followers of Christ growing to be more like Him every day. (I Thessalonians 5:12-13) (Hebrews 13:17)
Pray for your pastors that we would:
- Grow in our devotional life & seek to live a life of integrity.
- Continue to grow in deeper love for our families.
- Stand strong against the enemy and his temptations.
- Persevere when faced with trials and discouragement.
- Have wisdom and discernment as we lead the church & speak into the lives of others.
- Be bold in proclaiming the Word of God.
(I Peter 5:1-4)
