FROM DEATH TO LIFE
“The Authentic Pursuit”
Ephesians 1:15-23

Introduction: Once we understand: 1) that our identity is Christ-based, 2) that we are “in Him” (meaning we are living in the new spiritual realities Christ has provided) then we can begin to pursue the life He has for us.

Living in the Reality of Paul’s Prayer

• Paul’s Thanks (Ephesians 1:15a, 16) (2 Corinthians 5:17)
• Their Testimony (Ephesians 1:15b)
• Paul’s Target—that they grow in knowledge
  
  The requirements for this kind of knowledge
  --must have the spirit of wisdom (Ephesians 1:17a)
  --must have the spirit of revelation (Ephesians 1:17b) (1 Corinthians 2:9-10a)
  --must have the eyes of the heart enlightened (Ephesians 1:18a)
  
  The results of this kind of knowledge
  --the present fulfillment of the new spiritual realities (Ephesians 1:18b)
  --the eternal fulfillment of the new spiritual realities (Ephesians 1:18c) (1 John 4:4)

Living in the Reality of God’ Power

• A Power Available (Ephesians 1:19; Ephesians 3:20)
  -- To overcome temptation   (1 Corinthians 10:13)
  -- To overcome trials  (James 1:2-4)
  -- To overcome strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
  -- To overcome worry (Philippians 4:6-7)
  -- To overcome the enemy’s lies (John 8:44b)
  -- To overcome cynicism (Philippians 4:8)
  
  
• A Power Authenticated
  --by His resurrection (Ephesians 1:20a)
  --by His ascension (Ephesians 1:20b)

Living in the Reality of Jesus’ Pre-eminence

• He will Never be Defeated—no contenders (Ephesians 1:21-22a)
• He will Always be Directing—the Church  (Ephesians 1:22b-23)

Application: Are you pursuing the life God intends for you to have “in Christ” or are you living a life that does not reflect the new spiritual realities that have been provided for you and should define who you are? (John 10:10)
