Message

FROM DEATH TO LIFE
The Transformed Imitator”
Ephesians 5:1-7

Introduction: Paul continues his narrative of taking off and putting on. Here in this passage, he starts with what needs to be put on and ends with what needs to be taken off.  It appears that Paul is taking us on a journey to find the true meaning of love and its counterfeit sexual sin.

Imitate The God of Love (Ephesians 5:1) (1 John 2:5-6) (1 Peter 1:14-16)

Emulate The Love Of Christ (Ephesians 5:2) (Romans 8:29(1 John 3:16)

Separate From Sexual Sin
There are actions we must avoid (Ephesians 5:3-4a)
There is an attitude we must adopt (Ephesians 5:4b) (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
There are arguments we must acknowledge
--these sins do not illustrate transformation (Ephesians 5:5) (Colossians 3:5)
--these sins do invite God’s wrath (Ephesians 5:6)
There is an authority we must accept (Ephesians 5:7) (Titus 2:11-12)

Application: We are called to be imitators of God and not imitators of this world. Left to our flesh, with the help of the enemy and the enticements of this world we will pursue sinful lust. However, we should be identified by our love for God and others.

Which does your life imitate: God and His love or this world and its lustful sin?
