“Fleeing the Darkness”
Ephesians 5:8-14

Introduction: The Church in America is rapidly losing its influence. Many have speculated that it is because the light of the Church is diminishing. Simply put, there is a dark world but a dimly lit Church. 

The world needs a Church—made up of God’s people—that reflects the brilliance of His light. (Matthew 5:14-16)

Light Transforms

• The Contrast (Ephesians 5:8a)
  Those who are Darkness
  --do the work of the enemy (John 8:44a)
  --are under the rule of the enemy (Colossians 1:13a)
  --are awaiting the wrath of God (Romans 1:18)
  --will be cast into outer darkness (Matthew 8:12)
  Those who are Light
  --do the work of God (Ephesians 2:10)
  --are under the rule of Christ (Colossians 1:10)
  --are awaiting the promises of God (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10)
  --will go to a place of light (Revelation 21:23)

• The Command (Ephesians 5:8b) (Psalm 119:105) (Proverbs 6:23) (1 John 1:5-7)
• The Core (Ephesians 5:9)
• The Challenge (5:10)

Light Exposes

• The Prohibition (Ephesians 5:11a)
• The Obligation (Ephesians 5:11b) (Hebrews 4:12)
• The Admonition (Ephesians 5:12) (Galatians 6:1)
• The Illumination (Ephesians 5:13)

Light Awakens

• Makes One Aware (Ephesians 5:14a)
• Makes One Alive (Ephesians 5:14b)
• Makes One Alert (Ephesians 5:14c)

Application: You do not have the ability to save anyone, but you can bring the light of the gospel to this dark world. This can only happen when you walk in the light. 

Are you walking in the light? Are you fleeing the darkness?

Bryan will to lead the mid-week Bible Study in the Legacy Suite each week throughout the Summer.  If no other Connect Groups are meeting, there will be no childcare.

6th-12th Grade Students: $45 (Includes: 5 Meals & T-shirt)

This is a mission trip right in our own backyard! We will have the opportunity to serve
our area, hangout with friends, and make a difference here in our community.
