Message

THE PROMISE STILL STANDS
“Never Forget”
Joshua 4:1-5:12

Introduction: The “Highlight Reel” of Joshua reminds us that God’s promises still stand. Plans and People change but the Promise continues.

Then

Physical Nation

Worship centered around Sacrifices through the Tabernacle

The Conquest was People and Property

The Command was Subdue the Land and Make War

Now

Spiritual Kingdom

Worship centers around the Savior through the Church

The Conquest is Souls and Salvation

The Command is Spread the Gospel and Make Disciples

Remember God’s Power (Joshua 4:1-24)

Signs pointed to God
  - Signs expose a greater Reality
  - Signs serve as a Reminder so that we don’t Forget
o Man-made memorials emphasize the Tragedies of our Past
o God-made memorials emphasize the Victories of His Promises

Stories taught to Children
  - Spiritual depth is shaped more by what happens at home than by what happens at church.

Sovereignty revealed to Nations
  - Everything God does, He does for His Glory and our Good.

Renew Your Promise (Joshua 5:1-10)
Be Pure: Remove Sin from your Life
Be Dedicated: Resolve yourself to God’s Purposes
Be Expectant: Ready yourself to see God Work

Rely on God’s Provision (Joshua 5:11-12)
- “God’s work done God’s way will never lack God’s Supply” Hudson Taylor

Application: Will you be Intentional to Remember or Careless to Forget?

Then
The Sign of God’s promise was twelve Stones and Circumcision

Now
The Sign of God’s promise is one Spirit and Communion
