WHEN CALLED TO LEAD
1 Thessalonians 5:12-22
Introduction: The need for Spiritual Leadership is a must for a local Church. A Spiritual Leader is a person God calls to provide spiritual guidance, instruction, discipline, and discernment for a local Church.
A Proper Explanation of Spiritual Leaders (1 Thessalonians 5:12) (1 Peter 5:1-2)
Pastor—(Shepherd) “labor among you”
Overseer—(Administrator) “over you in the Lord”
Elder—(Counselor) “admonish you”
A Proper Appreciation for Spiritual Leaders
Through Love (1 Thessalonians 5:13a) (Hebrews 13:17)
Through Peace (1 Thessalonians 5:13b)
A Proper Exhortation to Spiritual Leaders
Be Challenging (1 Thessalonians 5:14a)
Be Comforting (1 Thessalonians 5:14b)

Be Long-Suffering (1 Thessalonians 5:14d)
Be Self-Restrained (1 Thessalonians 5:15)

Be Responsive
--to the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

Application: Do you properly acknowledge and appreciate the roles and authority of those who are your spiritual leaders? Do you pray for the spiritual leaders God has placed in your life?

Leader: We have come together this hour, for the setting apart of one of God's servants, to affirm his continued calling into the Gospel Ministry.
People: We affirm Jason in service and in love.
