THAT YOU MAY...
“Suspicious Minds”
John 7:1-52
Introduction: John isn’t writing a Biography for Information; he’s writing an Invitation for Transformation – that you may Believe and that you may have Life. In John 7, we discover the conflict between man’s suspicions and God’s sovereignty resolved by Jesus’ claims.
The Suspicions of Man
Jesus’ Stepbrothers (John 7:1-10)
The Common People (John 7:12-13,20,25-27,40-42)
The Religious Leaders (John 7:11,15,32,47-49,52)
Pharisees—most influential & largest Jewish sect, strict adherence to the law,
Sadducees—most of the High Priests came from this sect, did not believe in the resurrection nor in miracles, angels or immortality
The Temple Guards (John 7:45-46)
Nicodemus (John 7:50-51)
The Sovereignty of God (refers to His supreme authority and control over all creation. This concept emphasizes that God is the ultimate ruler who exercises absolute power according to His Will and for His Glory.)
His Timing (John 7:30)
His Plan (John 7:16-18)
Footnote: God’s plans and purposes and His timing have never, nor ever will be hindered by man.
The Statements of Jesus
He Addresses His Half-brothers
--their unbelief (John 7:6-8)
He Addresses the Religious Leaders
--their hypocrisy (John 7:19-24)
--their ignorance (John 7:33-36)
He Addresses the Common People
--their willingness to believe (John 7:28-31)
He Addresses All Who Will Hear & Receive (John 7:37-39)
Conclusion: Are you suspicious of Jesus’ claims or have you found satisfaction in Who He says He is and the salvation He offers? (John 6:67-69)
- Jesus is not merely Useful, Jesus is Enough.
