“Define the Relationship”|
John 15:1-11

Introduction: John isn’t writing a Biography for Information, he’s writing an Invitation for Transformation- that you may Believe and that you may have Life. In John 15, Jesus answers one of the most important questions a Born-again Believer can ever ask: “What is the true Nature of my Relationship with Jesus?”

As a Born-again Believer…

I am Connected to Jesus: Life (John 15:1-3)
- My Life is sourced by the Son
- My Growth is directed by the Father
     o He Upholds me by His Power
     o He Prunes me for His Purpose
- My Identity is established by the Word

I am Abiding in Jesus: Fruit (John 15:4-8)
- My maturing isn’t self-Improvement, it’s God-Dependence
- My conduct doesn’t Make me alive, it Proves I’m alive
- My ambition isn’t personal Success, it’s God’s Glory

I am Loved by Jesus: Joy (John 15:9-11)
- My love is rooted in His love
- My obedience doesn’t Earn His love, it Enjoys His love
- My joy is cultivated through Communion with Christ and is untouched by Circumstances

Application: Don’t just define your relationship with Jesus by a moment in your past; define it by a life that is connected to Him, abiding in Him, and resting in His love.
