THAT YOU MAY...
“Failure Isn’t Final”
John 18:3-27

Introduction: John isn’t writing a Biography for Information, he’s writing an Invitation for Transformation- that you may Believe and that you may have Life. In John 18, “I AM” meets “I am Not,” revealing the Faithfulness of Jesus and the Frailty of His followers.

When Following Jesus…

Don’t overestimate your Strength (John 13:36-38, John 18:10-11)
- Confidence without Dependence
     o Peter’s problem wasn’t a lack of Sincerity, it was a lack of Humility
- Passion without Submission
     o Peter was willing to Kill for Jesus, just not Die for Jesus

Don’t underestimate your Weakness (John 18:3-8, 15-27)
- Compromise begins when we forget our Identity
     o 3 Declarations: Jesus saying, “I AM”
              Jesus firmly Owns His identity
     o 3 Denials: Peter saying, “I am Not”
             Peter fearfully Abandons his Identity 

Don’t Run from His Grace (John 21:7)
- Similar failure, different Directions
     o Judas: Guilt says, “Run From Jesus”
            Guilt makes your failure feel Final
     o Peter: Grace says, “Run To Jesus”
            Grace makes the Calling ahead of you greater than the Offenses behind you

Application: Following Jesus isn’t about never Failing Him, but failure doesn’t have to be final when you know Where to Run.
