Message

THAT YOU MAY...
“Tragedy to Triumph”
John 19:16-30

Introduction: John isn’t writing a Biography for Information, he’s writing an Invitation for Transformation- that you may Believeand that you may have Life. And nowhere is that invitation clearer than at the Cross. In John 19, we see that the cross wasn’t the Tragic End of Jesus’ mission; it was the Triumphant Completion of it.

At the Cross…

Jesus is Lifted up (John 19:16-18)
- Jesus isn’t dragged to a Fate He couldn’t Avoid, He is moving to the Hour He came to Fulfill.
- What was meant to be the Humiliation of a Criminal is actually the Exaltation of a King

Jesus is still Reigning (John 19:19-24)
- They are all doing what they Want, while God is accomplishing what He Willed
o The Ruler thinks he is getting the last Word, but God is using him to declare the lasting Truth
o The Religious try to change the Inscription, but they cannot change Jesus’ Identity
o The Romans think they are Dividing clothes, but they are actually Fulfilling Scripture
- What was meant to be the execution of God’s Son is actually the execution of God’s Plan

Jesus is Caring for His Own (John 19:25-27)
- Your pain is never too Small for His Concern and never too Great for His Care
- What was meant to Wound Jesus becomes the place where our wounds find Healing

Jesus is Finishing our Redemption (John 19:28-30)
- “It is finished” means there is nothing left to Add, nothing left to Earn, and nothing left to Pay
- What was meant to be the end of Jesus becomes the end of our Debt

Application: The question of the cross is not, “What more must Jesus do?” The question is, “Will I trust in what Jesus has already Done?”
