Worship Leader Expectations

If you have a heart for leading in worship and are passionate in wanting to help people encounter Jesus during our Sunday morning Gatherings, we want to encourage you to join our Worship Leadership team. Our Worship Leadership involves vocalists, musicians, and choir.  Our heart for this ministry is not based on talent as much as it is based on genuine worship and zeal for Christ. We do require an audition and interview for lead vocalists and musicians. However anyone with a heart for God can join our choir by simply interviewing with our Staff. To join or set up an audition, please join this group and we will be in contact.

A Vision for How we Worship

  • Because Jesus is our lead story, the end goal is not to entertain those coming to our Gatherings but to lead them into an encounter with Him. We are aware of what is at stake and the weight of responsibility we carry as we lead others to this encounter with Jesus.
  • Because Worship is a Lifestyle, we want our worship to resonate as a lifestyle throughout the week. Worship is so much more than what happens on Sunday mornings, we want what happens during our Gatherings on Sunday to be an overflow of what we have experienced with Jesus.
  • Because We > Me, there is no “they” in our church only “we”. We work as a team in our Gatherings in order to corporately lead those who attend. God desires unity within His Church and we can practically represent that unity by singing with one voice.  “We” includes the people that come to our Gatherings and by corporately singing on the melody (mostly) and with one voice we help them engage in worship by making it easier and more comfortable for them to join us.

Spiritually Prepared

  • It is important that you are spiritually prepared leading up to our Gatherings. This includes spending time in God’s Word as well as prayer. This is not something that you can “wrap your head around” or “summon the Holy Spirit” 15 minutes before a Gathering. It is a week-long process of living out Fellowship with Christ.
  • There is a level and standard of personal holiness that is expected for those that lead worship. A negative testimony or attitude can profoundly affect our attempt to lead on Sundays. Regardless of your musical gifts, your heart and testimony matter more and are much louder than the song you sing or play. The practice of inappropriate behaviors to the extent of negatively affecting our Gathering will result in dismissal of Worship Leadership.
  • If you are a vocalist with a mic on Sunday, be prepared to share or pray. This will be planned out sometime during the week and rehearsed before our Gatherings on Sundays.

Intentionally Prepared

  • Each Tuesday, you will be receiving an email from Planning Center regarding the following Sunday’s Gathering, You are expected and required to respond on planning center through the email that is sent each week. We need you to accept or decline each invitation. Please do not neglect this as it affects our planning for each Gathering.
  • You are expected to listen and practice the music that is online in planning center. Regardless of whether you know the song or not, it is important to refresh yourself with the words and timing of the songs. This frees you up in worship to not be bound by the confidence monitor or chord charts.
  • As part of being Intentionally prepared, we conduct a Sunday Morning Rehearsal:
  • There will always be a time at the end when someone will lead a devotional followed by prayer requests and prayer time. We believe this sets the tone for our Gatherings.
  • Practice is what you do on your own before you come to rehearsal. Rehearsal is when you come together with the group and go over what you’ve practiced. This is why you MUST know the songs before rehearsal on Sundays. Rehearsal should not be the first time you hear this song.
  • Because of our limited rehearsal time:
    • Please listen to instructions carefully without being a distraction
    • Feel free to ask for a point of clarification between songs.
    • If you have personal issues, suggestions, or constructive criticism, please discuss it with the Worship Pastor or by email.
    • Everyone is expected to be on time for rehearsal and ready to start at the respective times: Band at 7:30am / Vocalists & Choir at 8:10am.
  • Because we know what is at stake in these Gatherings, please make every effort to protect a spirit of unity, positivity, and encouragement.
  • For families with both parents involved in the Worship Leadership, we are providing childcare (ages 6 months and older) Available between 8:00-9:15am.
  • Please check your child into the system before you put them in childcare.

Sunday mornings require our Attention

  • Paying Attention to God’s Spirit
    • By realizing our identity is in Him
    • By remaining in an attitude of Worship and Prayer
    • By recognizing the Holy Spirit’s leadership
  • Paying Attention to what has been planned
    • When you should clap after a song
    • When you should come on and off the stage
    • When you sing and when you shouldn’t during a song
  • Paying Attention to what’s going on in the room
    • It’s easy to get lost in the moment, which in many ways is a great thing but also remember that because we are on the stage we have to be aware of what is going on in the room.
  • Paying Attention to “the Leader”
    • There are times when something might need to be improvised- watch for signals from “the Leader”- both physical signals (hand gestures) and verbal signals.
  • Paying Attention to the Confidence Monitor for words if you get lost
    • The point is not to stare at the screen and sing back the words you are reading. It is there if you have a momentary lapse of forgetfulness in a song.
  • Paying Attention to what you are doing- “Stage Presence”
    • We are not here to get our identity in what people think about how we look. However, we don't want to physically do things that distract or deter someone from worshipping. Stage presence has little to do with putting on an act and performing. It has everything to do with outwardly communicating the inward work that God is doing in us.
    • What’s going on with your physical posture.
    • Smile- no need for grumpy faces- We are singing about the Love of Jesus!
    • Focus your attention on who is leading the host moments or worship songs.
    • Abide by the Dress code:
      • Check your fly! :)
      • No shorts
      • Ladies: skirts need to be an appropriate length
      • Clothing does not need to be see through in bright lighting
      • Other than a small logo, shirts do not need to have pictures or words.
    • Vocalists Pay attention to how you hold the mic. Also make sure you are not pointing them toward other speakers. Mic posture is important so we don’t lose signal or it doesn’t feedback.
  • If, at the last minute, you are sick and you are not going to make it to Sunday’s Gatherings, please text or call Wes Greene or Jonathan Glisson.
