Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:6–8
Introduction: Both Jesus and Paul were great examples of one who can leave this world courageously—Jesus on the cross and Paul in prison awaiting execution.
Definition of Courage: The power that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, and even death without fear.
How Does One Leave this World Courageously?
Live Sacrificially—“drink offerings” (2 Timothy 4:6a)
(Romans 12:1; Galatians 2:20; Philippians 1:21; Colossians 3:3)
Understand Properly —“departure” (2 Timothy 4:6b)
False Teaching About Death:
- Universalism (John 14:6)
- Annihilationism (John 14:3)
- Reincarnation (Hebrews 9:27)
- Purgatory (Luke 16:19-31)
- Soul Sleep (2 Corinthians 5:6-8)
Battle Faithfully—“have”
- “Fought” (2 Timothy 4:7a) (Galatians 6:9)
- “Finished” (2 Timothy 4:7b) (Hebrews 12:1)
- “Kept” (2 Timothy 4:7c) (1 Timothy 6:20-21)
Receive Assuredly —“crown” (2 Timohty 4:8)
Application: As Paul, we do not have to fear death if our faith is _______________ in Jesus Christ.
