Scripture: 2 Timothy 4:6–8

Introduction:  Both Jesus and Paul were great examples of one who can leave this world courageously—Jesus on the cross and Paul in prison awaiting execution.

Definition of Courage:  The power that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, and even death without fear.

How Does One Leave this World Courageously?

Live Sacrificially“drink offerings” (2 Timothy 4:6a)

 (Romans 12:1; Galatians 2:20; Philippians 1:21; Colossians 3:3)

Understand Properly “departure” (2 Timothy 4:6b) 

   False Teaching About Death:

  • Universalism (John 14:6)
  • Annihilationism (John 14:3) 
  • Reincarnation (Hebrews 9:27)
  • Purgatory (Luke 16:19-31)
  • Soul Sleep (2 Corinthians 5:6-8)

Battle Faithfully“have”

  • “Fought” (2 Timothy 4:7a) (Galatians 6:9)
  • “Finished” (2 Timothy 4:7b) (Hebrews 12:1)
  • “Kept” (2 Timothy 4:7c) (1 Timothy 6:20-21)

Receive Assuredly “crown” (2 Timohty 4:8)

Application: As Paul, we do not have to fear death if our faith is _______________ in Jesus Christ.
