August 18, 2019 Pastor: Bryan Glisson Series: Flourish
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:12–15
Introduction: The need for Spiritual Leadership is a must for a family and a local Church. A Spiritual Leader is a person God calls to provide spiritual guidance and discernment for a family and a local Church. (Ephesians 6:4)
A Proper Explanation of Spiritual Leaders (I Thessalonians 5:12) (1 Peter 5:1-2)
- Pastor—(Shepherd) “labor among you”
- Overseer—(Administrator) “over you in the Lord”
- Elder—(Counselor) “admonish you”
A Proper Appreciation for Spiritual Leaders
- Through Love (I Thessalonians 5:13a) (Hebrews 13:17)
- Through Peace (I Thessalonians 5:13b)
A Proper Exhortation to Spiritual Leaders
- Confront “warn those who are unruly” (I Thessalonians 5:14a)
- Comfort “comfort the fainthearted” (I Thessalonians 5:14b)
- Connect “uphold the weak” (I Thessalonians 5:14c)
- Composed “be patient with all” (I Thessalonians 5:14d)
- Cool-headed (I Thessalonians 5:15)
Application: Have we as spiritual leaders (church leaders, fathers) upheld our responsibilities? Do we properly acknowledge the roles and authority of those who are our spiritual leaders?
