THE INSECURITY THAT STOLE CHRISTMAS
Matthew 2:1-19

Introduction: Nothing can steal the truth of Christmas. Yet it’s easy for us to not live in the reality of Christmas. The reality of Christmas is that Jesus has come to set us free from the Penalty of our Sin and the Power of our Hang-Ups.

A Great Insecurity Revealed (Matthew 2:1-3)
  -  Insecurity’s best mask is Perfectionism
  -  Kingdoms of Insecurity:

  • Kingdom Position: “I must be noticed
  • Kingdom of Possessions: “I must have…”
  • Kingdom of Power: “I must be in control

A Paranoid Feeling Researched (Matthew 2:4-6)
 -  Insecurity always demands to be “in the know

A Deceptive Plot Raised (Matthew 2:7-8)
 - Insecurity can make a fool out of you, by making a liar out of you

A Divine Plan Recorded (Matthew 2:12-15)
  - “There is not one piece of cosmic dust that is outside the scope of God’s Sovereign Providence.”  - R.C. Sproul

A Misplaced Judgment Realized (Matthew 2:16-18)
 - How do you identify the Problem of Insecurity?

  • Realize “They” are NOT the Problem
  • Realize your Circumstances are NOT the Problem
  • Realize “I” am the Problem

A Bitter Life Ruined (Matthew 2:19)
  - Insecurity ends in Insanity

A Wise Celebration Received (Matthew 2:9-11)
  - Celebrating Breaks Insecurity: Moving the Focus off Yourself

  • Celebrate with Others: Fellowship
  • Celebrate with God: Worship
