“Joy”

Galatians 5:22-23; The Book of Philippians

Series Introduction: The Fruit of the Spirit is a picture of spiritual qualities that are reflected in the personality and relationships of the believer. The Biblical goal for every believer is for the spiritual fruit to ripen in their lives.

The Process of Fruit-Bearing:

• Planting—the Word of God       

• Cultivating—nourishing & pruning

• Producing—for consumption & propagation

Definition of Joy:  The unshakable assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything will be alright, and the determined purpose to praise God in all things.

Six Ways to Build Joy:

• Invest in the Lives of Others (Philippians 1:3-11)

• Yield to the Purposes of God (Philippians 1:19-26)

• Put Behind the Past
         Regrets (Philippians 3:6, Philippians 3:13a)
         Rewards (Philippians 3:7-9; Philippians 3:13a) (Isaiah 43:18-19a)

• Trust God with the Future
         Daily (Philippians 3:13b-14) 
         Eternity (Philippians 3:20-21)

• Focus on the Present
         Don’t let people steal your joy (Philippians 4:2-5)
         Don’t let worry steal your joy (Philippians 4:6-7)
         Don’t let negativity steal your joy (Philippians 4:8-9)
         Don’t let circumstances steal your joy (Philippians 4:12)

• Learn to be Content (Philippians 4:11)

Application: (Philippians 4:4) Joy is a decision. You are as joyful as you choose to be. Based on these passages if you are discouraged it is because you are choosing to be discouraged.
