SUIT UP!
“Dee-Fence!!!—The Shield of Faith” 
Ephesians 6:16; Other Passages  

Introduction: Faith in God is the only protection for those who are vulnerable and under attack from the enemy. Without faith in God, the follower of Jesus does not stand a chance against the enemy. Faith must be placed, developed, and exercised in the Jesus follower to be able to withstand the weaponry (darts) of the enemy. (Romans 8:37)

“Every word of God
is tested and refined [like silver];
He is a shield to those who trust 
and take refuge in Him.” 
(Proverbs 30:5)

The Fiery Darts of the Enemy:

The Dart of Doubt (Genesis 3)
--challenges the author of God’s Word (Genesis 3:1a)
--challenges the authority of God’s Word (Genesis 3:1b-3)
--challenges the acceptability of God’s Word (Genesis 3:4-5)
***overcoming doubt (Matthew 4:1-11)

The Dart of Desire (Temptation) (1 John 2:16) (Genesis 3:6)
--desire activated by sight—“lust of the eyes”—you see it (Genesis 3:6a)
--desire conceived by the mind—“lust of the flesh”—you want it (Genesis 3:6b)
--desire surrendered to sin—“pride of life”—you deserve it (Genesis 3:6c-10)
***overcoming temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13)

The Dart of Dismay (Fear)

Overcoming Fear (Nehemiah 4):
--develop a burning passion within (Nehemiah 4:6)
--accept fear as the price of victory (Nehemiah 4:7-8)
--admit your fears (Nehemiah 4:9)
--discover the root cause of your fear (Nehemiah 4:10-12)
--focus on things you can control (Nehemiah 4:13)
--feed your faith, not your fear (Nehemiah 4:14)

The Dart of Discouragement (Galatians 6:9)

Overcoming Discouragement (1 Kings 19):
--receive God’s care for you (Nehemiah 4:7-8)
--respond to God’s Voice and/or His Word (Nehemiah 4:9-10)
--remember God does speak to the hurting (Nehemiah 4:11-14)
--return to work & allow God to renew your sense of purpose (Nehemiah 4:15-17)
--reality-check your perceptions (faith & facts over feelings) (Nehemiah 4:18)
--reach to the support God sends (Nehemiah 4:19-21)

The Dart of Distress (John 11:17-21)

***overcoming distress (John 11:22-27)

Conclusion: The enemy has a custom-made plan to destroy you. Your faith in God and His plan for you--discovered in His Word--is the only thing stands between you and that destruction.
