“The Battle Against The Flesh” (Part 2)
2 Corinthians 10:3-6

Introduction: We as “Followers of Jesus” are under attack on three fronts—the enemy, the world, and our flesh—and we need to be aware and alert. To be successful in this battle for our soul we must analyze our enemy, utilize our weaponry, and realize our victory.

The Inner Contenders  (Galatians 5:16-25)

The Inner Struggles  (Romans 7:14-25)

The Inner Strongholds  (2 Corinthians 10:3-6)

Definition of Stronghold: Physically—a well-fortified place, something that is entrenched; Spiritually—something that is entrenched in the mind and heart of a person that allows the enemy to bring defeat and destruction to a person.

Examples of Strongholds:  Laziness, Addictions, Eating Disorders, Types of Fears, Bitterness, Etc

• The Characteristics of Strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:3-4)

            Gives the enemy a foothold
            Stimulates destructive behavior
            Breeds defeat & discouragement

• The Components of Strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:5-6)

            Wrong belief system—“arguments”
            Wrong thoughts—“high thing”
            Wrong actions—“disobedience”

• The Conquering of Strongholds

“Do not be conformed to this world (belief systems), but be transformed
(HOW?) by the renewing of your mind,
(WHY?) that you may prove what is good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”   (Romans 12:2)

            Realize the flesh cannot prevail against strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:3)
            Discover the weapons available (2 Corinthians 10:4)
            Cast down the lie (2 Corinthians 10:5a)
            Exalt the truth of God (2 Corinthians 10:5b)
            Evaluate each thought (2 Corinthians 10:5c) (Philippians 4:8)
            Punish all disobedience (2 Corinthians 10:6)

Application:  List the possible strongholds in your life:  

Will you make a commitment to agree with God that these strongholds reside in your life and ask Him to help you overcome them by the power of His Word and His Spirit?
